Shopping for a bra in a different country, or reading a UK brand's size chart from the US? Bra sizes don't translate cleanly across regions — what Americans call "DDD" is "F" in the UK, "E" in France, and "85" in EU band-with-letter sizing. The international bra cup size chart exists to bridge this gap.
This guide gives you a complete US / UK / EU / FR / AU / JP conversion chart, a band-size conversion table, and step-by-step instructions for converting between systems. You'll also learn why the systems differ (it's mostly historical) and when to trust an international brand's chart over the conversion. For the full US sizing foundation, see our bra cup size chart hub.
Why International Sizes Differ
The US, UK, EU, French, Australian, and Japanese systems were developed independently over the past century, with different starting points and different label sequences. The result: the same physical bra might be labeled:
- US 36D
- UK 36D (same — for bands and most cups)
- EU 80D (band in cm)
- FR 95D (band = bust + 15cm approximation)
- AU 12D (band = Australian dress size)
- JP 80D (band in cm, same as EU)
For cups, the systems diverge more noticeably. US uses AA-A-B-C-D-DD-DDD-G. UK uses AA-A-B-C-D-DD-E-F-G-FF-GG. EU/FR add their own variations. The chart below sorts this out.
Band Size Conversion
| US/UK | EU/FR/JP (cm) | AU/NZ |
|---|---|---|
| 28 | 60 | 6 |
| 30 | 65 | 8 |
| 32 | 70 | 10 |
| 34 | 75 | 12 |
| 36 | 80 | 14 |
| 38 | 85 | 16 |
| 40 | 90 | 18 |
| 42 | 95 | 20 |
| 44 | 100 | 22 |
| 46 | 105 | 24 |
The EU/JP band is labeled in centimeters (underbust measurement in cm + 0, no rounding). The FR system is similar but with a slightly different starting point. The AU system uses Australian dress sizes for the band.
Cup Size Conversion (US/UK/EU/FR)
| US | UK | EU | FR | Bust − Band (in) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AA | AA | AA | AA | 0–1" |
| A | A | A | A | 1" |
| B | B | B | B | 2" |
| C | C | C | C | 3" |
| D | D | D | D | 4" |
| DD | DD | E | E | 5" |
| DDD | E | F | F | 6" |
| G | F | G | G | 7" |
| H | FF | H | H | 8" |
| I | G | I | I | 9" |
The key confusion: US DDD = UK E = EU F = FR F. The same physical cup, four different labels. Always check both the country label and the brand's own size chart when shopping internationally.

How to Use This Chart
- Measure yourself. Use the bra measuring guide to get your US band and cup.
- Find your US size in the table above.
- Read across to the system you need (UK, EU, FR, AU, JP).
- Cross-check with the brand's own size chart. Conversion tables are a starting point, not gospel. Each brand grades a little differently.
When to Trust the Brand's Chart
Conversion tables are useful, but they assume all brands use the same grading. They don't. A UK 36D at Brand A might be slightly different from a UK 36D at Brand B.
For a brand you're new to, always check the brand's own size chart and measure yourself. If you can, order two close sizes (e.g., 36D and 36DD) and return what doesn't fit. The few dollars in shipping are worth getting the right fit on the first real purchase.
FAQ
What is US 36D in UK sizing?
The same — 36D in UK is the same band and cup as 36D in US. The two systems diverge at DD and above.
What is US DDD in UK sizing?
US DDD = UK E. The same physical cup, different letter.
What is US 36D in EU sizing?
US 36D = EU 80D. The band changes from inches to centimeters (80cm = ~31.5 inches = ~US 32 band; but in practice, EU 80D is graded to fit like US 36D).
What is US 36D in Australian sizing?
US 36D = AU 14D. Australian bands use Australian dress sizes, not inches.
Are EU and FR sizes the same?
For cups, mostly. For bands, they use the same centimeter labeling but with a different starting formula. A FR 95D and an EU 80D both fit a similar body, but the labels are different.
What's the most accurate international size chart?
All of them are equally accurate for the system they describe. The trick is matching the system to the brand. If a brand uses UK sizing, use the UK column. If they use EU, use the EU column.
